1994 Harley-Davidson Dyna Convertible (FXDS-C)

$7500 US

I purchased this bike new from Bob Dron H-D in Oakland, CA, in March 1994. It has been across America several times.

1340 cc Evo. Current odometer: 56,600 miles.

It's a very tight bike. Runs great! Engine had a top-end overhaul by Dave at McGuire H-D, San Ramon, CA at 37,000 miles. It is equipped with Screaming Eagle cam, high-performance valve springs, intake kit, and Vance & Hines ProPipe 2-into-1 exhaust. Original nylon saddlebags (included) have been replaced with waterproof lockable LeatherLyke bags. Extras include Progressive suspension front & rear, crash bar, auxiliary front road lights (mounted on crash bar), auxiliary rear tail/stop lights, accessory plug, aftermarket Harley pillow-pad seat (original saddle also included), high sissy bar with pillow pad (original low sissy bar and pillow pad also included), sport luggage rack, leather/chrome H-D grips, O-ring pegs, chrome taillight cover, blue dot lens, chrome rear fender tip, chrome fork lowers, chrome front caliper inserts, trim, and axle covers, dual Harley chrome-center floating disks in front, horn moved to side with chrome cover, Gorilla alarm with remote mounted in original horn location behind engine. Metzelers: a new one on rear, and plenty of wear left on front. Tires on this bike generally go about 12,000 miles.

2001 BMW K1200 LT C

$9300 US

This is one of the best 2001s you will find. Purchased new, it is ridden regularly and is in excellent physical and mechanical condition. The motorcycle is now located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Interested parties can contact me by email to sfrider@seaviewsci.com or telephone at (505) 603-8390.

The top-of-the-line K1200LT for 2001, fully equipped with 4-speaker stereo AM/FM/Cassette + 6-CD changer, alarm, heated seats and grips, two 12-volt accessory outlets, ABS (unlinked), cruise control, air-temperature thermometer, trip/mileage computer, low-fuel indicator, electrically adjustable windscreen, chrome trim, and chrome top rack. Fuel-injected 1200 cc inline four. Five speeds forward. Electric power reverse. Excellent handling and performance. Telelever front suspension does not dive during braking. Tire wear with Metzeler 880s has been 15,000+ miles per set. New front tire mounted in May 2006 has about 8000 miles. New rear tire: reinforced Bridgestone Battlax mounted in August 2008 after flat. New Bridgestone Battlax front tire not yet mounted, included. During an 8000 mile trip in October 2005 (loop to MN, MI, TN, MS, AR, OK, NM and back to CA) the engine used less than 1/4 quart of oil. All synthetic lubricants changed in May 2008 at 49000 mi. Brake fluid replace front and rear September 2008. New ABS front pads on order. Valve-clearances were checked and new spark plugs installed at 40,700 miles. As a result of some valve check results being at the low end or slightly below spec, I had the valves re-shimmed by the BMW dealer (this was the first valve adjustment on this bike: not a trivial procedure, since it requires pulling the camshafts); intake valves were set within spec and all exhaust valves shimmed to high spec or slightly above, which should maximize mileage to the next valve adjustment.

The bike gets 50 mpg at moderate highway speeds, but that cuts to 38-40 mpg at 75 mph. Typically it will go 200+ miles on a tank of gas. Extras: two sets of auxiliary lights in front (one for improved daytime visibility, one for improved night vision), two sets of auxiliary rear marker lights (for nighttime visibility), heated Corbin custom rider's saddle (deep dish contour sits lower in the bike than the stock saddle, leather selected to match passenger seatpad, original saddle also included), BMW cruiser mirrors (for much better rear vision than the fairing-mounted mirrors, which are still there also), a sealed battery has been installed (not available from BMW), headlight shield (to prevent expensive lens damage), nylon half cover, complete set of service video DVDs from Paul Sayegh included. Clymer manual on order. EBC brake pads front and rear. The high beam and cruise indicator lights on the dash have been shaded to improve night vision.

Added in 2005: Cee Bailey windsheild with wings (original screen also included), long JPEGs (flip-out roadpegs) for variable foot position, Kenwood 150-watt powered subwoofer mounted (easily removable for extra carrying capacity) in left side compartment (converts a basically good stereo into an awesome sound machine, which I typically feed from my iPod via cassette converter in the front compartment).

This bike has been across America and back several times without significant incident (e.g., 2001, 2002, 2003), 2005). Currently: 51,200 miles.

In 2007 I modified the rear of the topcase because the aluminum cast factory latch had broken, BMW wanted $800 for a replacement box and would not sell the latch separately, and I couldn't justify spending that amount of money for a case with a latch that would probably just break again in time because this is a known and well documented problem. I installed two adjustable automotive draw-bolt assemblies from Eberhard Manufacturing and also installed an additional square aftermarket LED tail/stop lamp in place of the original latch mechanism. The draw-bolts are lockable. Here are photographs showing the modified topcase:
